Fiending for a hit?
(Mouse over photo to view hidden image)

After voluntarily admitting that he smokes weed in the offseason, summertime drug tests are sure to be in J-Ho's future.

BALL IN …

I hate to keep it so real but I can’t for the life of me understand why J-Ho (3-16 FGs) went public with his private, summertime affection for ‘dro …

Being stupid to one’s detriment is one thing, but throwing one’s colleagues under the bus is quite another …

Any wonder why the Mavs are down 3-1?

Dirk (22 pts & 13 rebs) has been big-gaming it all series, but he’s on an island by himself, save Jason Terry who’s at least trying to contribute, but unfortunately his shooting percentage isn’t cooperating.  With a determined effort in Game 4, scoring 10 points early in the second half, David West helped lead the Hornets past the Mavericks 97-84 last night.  West had 24 points and nine rebounds, while Paul had 16 points, eight assists and seven rebounds as the Hornets ended an 0-for-14 drought in Dallas dating back to January 1998.

Will someone please pull the plug on the Dallas-Kidd (1-6 FGs for 6 pts) experiment …

Phoenix staved off elimination behind an impressive outing from oft-criticized Boris Diaw, defeating the Spurs 105-86.  Diaw also played tough defense on his good friend and fellow Frenchman Tony Parker, who scored 18 points after a career-high 41 in San Antonio’s 115-99 victory Friday night in Game 3.  I won’t say the Spurs mailed Game 4 in, but they didn’t put forth their finest effort.  The much maligned Diaw 27 stole the show with a 20 point, 10 rebound effort, falling two assists short of a triple-double.  But no one was more aggressive than Raja Bell, who scored 21 of his 27 points in a dominant first half to help Phoenix bring a one-sided end to the defending NBA champions’ nine-game playoff winning streak. The Suns were 11-0 in the regular season when Bell scored at least 20.  Now that the Suns have averted a sweep, can they summon the courage to get greedy?

Inquiring minds want to know …

What’s wrong with ‘enver, aside from their lack of D?  With the Lakers out front 3-0, it seems like only yesterday that everyone gave the ‘Melo-Iverson experiment a pass due to the limited time the two had to work out the kinks last year.  But this year was supposed to be their time to show the world that two selfish, ball-stoppers could change their spots en route to the Western Conference crown.  With Game 4 tonight, the Nuggets are going to have to get more out of Anthony and Iverson if they hope to take the series back to the Staples Center.

For once the Nuggets clamped down on defense, but their high-flying offense went AWOL as Anthony and Iverson had their worst tandem performance since being brought together last season.

Uh, what had happened was …

And speaking of ball stopping, someone please tell TNT’s Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley they didn’t create, introduce, or coin the term, ball stopper.

Sorry to bust your bubble, Kenny.  Nonetheless, congrats on your newborn.  At least you can take credit for that.  Right?

PJ is reportedly more than a bit concerned about his team’s defense.  Although Anthony and A.I. shot a combined 10-for-38 and finished with 16 and 15 points, respectively, it wasn’t due to the Lakers, suggested Jackson.

“I thought our defense packed it in on them, but they missed some easy shots,” Jackson said. “I told the team at halftime, ‘They’re not going to shoot like this for the whole game. They missed some close shots, some shots they usually make.   We’ll have to play better defense in the second half.’

The Lakers defense hasn’t been that great in this series, but one would hardly know it after the 84 point outing Denver put up in Game 3.   With a date with a tougher second-round opponent on the horizon, the Lakers would be well-served to start shutting a few guys down.

Gotta give Houston credit, they have not helped the Jazz’s 3-1 series lead come easy, but how much more could anyone realistically expect from a Rockets team already down a major cog in Yao Ming.  Rafer Alston being out for Games 1 & 2 didn’t help.

As much as I wanted to see McGrady get out of the first round, I simply couldn’t pick Houston to win this series.  Nonetheless, Mehmet Okur bailed out Williams big time in this one.  After Williams missed two free throws with 7.3 seconds left, Okur made two from the line to seal an 86-82 win over the Rockets on Saturday, giving the Jazz a 3-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.

“Memo saved my butt. I ought to give him something. I ought to buy him a car or something,” Williams said.

Okur had 18 rebounds, Carlos Boozer added 14 and the Jazz made up for some dismal outside shooting by controlling the lane.

And just when we thought Boston was firing on all cylinders, Josh Smith happened …

Josh Smith dunks against the Boston Celtics in Game Three of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.

J-Smooth (27 points) dropped hammers on the C’s heads all night. The victory marked Atlanta’s first playoff win since May 16, 1999, when they beat the Detroit Pistons in the series clinching Game 5.  Rookie Al Horford was a force on the interior.  He had 17 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and showed he wasn’t afraid of the mighty Celtics, jawing with Paul Pierce in the final minute.

Nonetheless, Kevin Garnett has been downright bringing the attitude in this series, leading Boston with 32 points, but he looked exhausted late, as the young Hawks gave Boston’s All-Star triumvirate more run than their old legs could handle.  Look for the Celtics to bounce back strong in Game 4.  Anything short would be cause for serious concern …

Boy, if Andre Iguodala actually had a playoffs’ game the Pistons would be headed for disaster.  Fortunately for Detroit, Andre can’t find his stroke, or his high-flying ways.  Rasheed Wallace was 5-for-12 from the field, but sank all three 3s in the third. Billups’ 4-for-16 was an afterthought compared to his nine-point, three-assist quarter.  Tayshaun Prince scored 23 points, making all but one shot from the field

Detroit should be thanking its lucky stars.  If the Pistons allow Philly back in this series, they deserve to lose it.  Still, given the Pistons hubris, the playoffs might be better served with a Cleveland-Boston matchup over a Pistons-Celtics matchup.  Pierce, who was body slammed to the court in Game 2, played 36 minutes with a stiff back and wasn’t much of a factor. He managed 17 points on only 5-of-13 shooting. Allen was 5-of-14 and held to 13 points, leaving Garnett to carry the Big Three.  KG also had 10 rebounds.

Jameer Nelson stepped up in the face of Stan Van Gundy’s challenge to be more aggressive, scoring 12 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, including 10 straight at one stretch, as the Magic beat the Raptors 106-94 on Saturday to take a 3-1 lead in their first-round series.

Rashard Lewis added 27 points and 13 rebounds, and Dwight Howard added 19 points, 16 boards and eight blocks for the third-seeded Magic, who host Game 5 of this first-round series tonight.  Howard finished 1-for-6 from the free throw line and has gone 9-for-23 since a 9-for-11 showing in Game 1.  Nevertheless, with a win tonight, the Magic will advance past the first-round for the first time since 1996.

So much for the hype of a DeShawn Stevenson-Lebron James matchup.  So far, LBJ has made DeShawn and the Wiz a virtual disappearing act.  Despite Stevenson’s bush league head-hunting, James remained poised, hitting Delonte West for a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 5.4 seconds left. That shot, along with James’ 34 points and 12 rebounds, led the Cavaliers to a 100-97 victory on Sunday and a 3-1 lead in their best-of-seven Eastern Conference playoff series.

Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James, left, has his headband knocked off by Washington Wizards' DeShawn Stevenson, right, in the second quarter of game 4 of an NBA basketball first-round playoff series, Sunday, April 27, 2008, in Washington. Stevenson was charged with a flagrant foul on the play.

LeBron became the 170th player in NBA history to record 1,000 career points in the postseason. He becomes the 3rd youngest in NBA history to reach that milestone, trailing only Kobe Bryant (22 years and 263 days old) and Tony Parker (23 years and 23 days old). James was 23 years and 119 days old Sunday.

AP Roundup

NBA

After another season of great imbalance between teams in the West and East, NBA officials are pledging to consider changes to the playoff format — ranging from small to radical — that could be implemented in time for next season’s playoffs.
————-
But the most likely scenario, according to various league sources, is no change to the current format.
——–
The exploration will commence with the league office compiling a list of alternative formats and sending them to the NBA’s competition committee, which will review the proposals at its next meeting May 27 during the annual pre-draft camp in Orlando.

Suggestions are expected to include re-seeding after each round of the playoffs as seen in other major professional team sports or even sending the teams with the best 16 records to the playoffs irrespective of conference.
————
If any proposal gets a strong endorsement from the competition committee, it will be forwarded to the league’s Board of Governors for a vote at its next meeting in October. The league could also conduct a Board of Governors vote via e-mail before October if there is a consensus push to change the system starting next season.

FIBA

International basketball is going to look more like the NBA after two major rule changes take effect. The 3-point line will move back and the three-second area will change shape starting in 2010, the sport’s world governing body announced Saturday.
———-
After Oct. 1, 2010, FIBA will begin using the new rules for major events such as the Olympics and world and continental championships.
———
The 3-point line will move from 20 feet, 6.1 inches to 22 feet, 1.7 inches. The NBA line is 23-9.
——-
FIBA general secretary Patrick Baumann said it was likely FIBA would move toward the NBA distance in the next 10 years.
————
FIBA also will reconfigure the three-second area to match the NBA shape, going from a trapezoid to a rectangle.

MORE NBA

The United States men’s basketball team will face host China in its first game at the Beijing Olympics.

In a draw held Saturday in Beijing, the Americans were drawn into Group B with China, defending world champion Spain and Angola. The two other teams to fill out the six-team group will come from an Olympic qualifying tournament in Athens, Greece, on July 14-20.

Group A is made up of Lithuania, Russia, defending Olympic champion Argentina, Iran and Australia. The sixth team will come from the Athens tournament.

You’re not the only one trying to fathom why the Mavericks have performed so badly. As I’d alluded to before, they’ve no real heart for a contest when they face real adversity. And despite the veteran presence on the team, there’s no real leadership there. If you think that I’m of the wrong opinion then I’d like to read your opinions as to where I might be wrong? They’re being out-played and out-coached by a team that’s playing with renewed zeal and character. Somethig that on appearance the Mavericks don’t seem to have in large doses.

And as to the series between the Suns and Spurs. Though it’s not yet over I expect that it’ll be once they return to San Antonio. That final nail will be put in the Suns’ coffin once and for all!

tophatal …………

1st off, i think j-ho’s throwing other players under the bus was worse than what kobe did to poor lil andrew bynum. at least kobe was talking about his game (or perceived lack of it). howard is taking the players’ private lives and making them public. only thing left for him to do is name names.

as of the jason kidd experiment, i think he pulled the plug on that one himself last night. not that he had any intention to hurt pargo. kidd is not a dirty player, but frustration has obviously boiled over and kidd decided enough is enough. nobody tell me a veteran like him didn’t know what he was doing.

the balanced attack that scott employed to beat the mavs was just perfect. as a vocal doubter of the hornets’ bench, i’ve been corrected. countering the kidd/terry back-court with cp3/pargo was genius.

one last note on the mavs-hornets game: did you see deavan george match paul stride for stride on that fast break in the 2nd half? sure it resulted in a three-point play, but at least there’s one mav giving it his all.

yao injured.
again.

t-mac isn’t getting out of the 1st round.
again.

and did i really hear jazz fans chanting “M-V-P” when williams went to the line? really?

the ‘enver nuggets lineup:
ever notice that the only player with the letter “D” in his name is Najera? it’s not a Misnomer, ‘enver really doesn’t have any “D”.

8 blocks for the ‘Centaur’ and almost for the 1st time this season, the Magic saw the Lewis that they all expected to see this season.

the changes FIBA is making will greatly benefit not just team USA, but also the conglomeration of NBA and FIBA and what Stern is trying to accomplish both in Europe and in China. a unification of rules was just bound to happen.

Actually, tophat, we’re in the same boat where the Mavs are concerned. Although I picked the Hornets to win the series, I am still a but surprised they’re up 3-1.

Still, if you know anything about Eddie Johnson’s history, one would have known not to place too much stock in the Mavericks this post season. The record is clear, teams only win the title after trading EJ away. Evidence: The Lakers and Miami Heat.

———–

As for the Suns, I’ll admit, things couldn’t be much more dire, but at least they showed some heart last night by pulling out one. D’Antoni says he believes the Suns are the better team. If so, then let’s see if he can coach his boys to a big time victory down in San Antonio.

Good to see ya this morning, Tophat!

:)

Excellent feedback and commentary, kd.

Yeah, George did match CP3 stride for stride, but are you surprised? After all, he does have a few championship rings.

Poor Yao, and poor T-Mac. Nuff said …

M-V-P chants for Williams, huh? Sorry, not this year, folks.

You’re right, Najera has been a steady contributor for the Nuggets, but he’s about the only one.

As you say, Dwight has been unreal, but Rashard has hardly earned that big contract. It’s about time he surfaced.

Finally, I never thought I’d see the day the NBA and FIBA would be on the same page. David Stern is plenty busy. I for one look forward to both leagues using the same rectangle lane.

—–

Again, most excellent feedback, kd.

Keep it coming …

:)

Good stuff and I got a ton of stuff to discuss with ya Meanie, but its lunch time on the east coast. I’ll be back.

Really looking forward to hearing whatever you have, RIDGE!

Hurry back from lunch …

It’s good to be finally back home. As I’d spent the last few days up in DC visiting the sites of the nation’s capitol.

It’d be remiss of me to say that I wasn’t moved. Having visited the Holocaust Museum, Vietnam Memorial and several other major places of interest. I must say that I’ve got a greater appreciation for the country as a whole despite many of its underlying problems. Hell even riding around town on the ol’ Suzuki 500cc was fun. My boys however were riding Harley’s. They own their’s as I was riding a damn rental for the week. Didn’t have time to watch the NFL Draft nor was I interested in it at all. The time for the guys to prove themselves will be on the field of play. And no amount of critiquing from the likes of Kiper and uber agent Drew Rosenhaus will make a blind bit of difference in the end.

Now that I’m back the ‘little lady’ll be in need of great deal of lovin’ as daddy has been away from the ‘his woman’ for far too long. It’s like a well-oiled machine that needs to be serviced on a regular basis!

tophatal …………

Sounds like you had a fantastic time, Top! I’ve done D.C. and the monuments once, at night. It was a memorable experience.

Hey I bet that Suzuki and those Harley’s were nice.

But I bet getting back to the ol’ lady was even nicer.

Good 4 u, bro.

Ok about this MORON josh howard…what did you just finsh a hooter or dro?

My very first thought was he said that on purpose to give the mavs an excuse to deal him after the season. But then i thought, they dont need a reason other than the fact the team sucks. And what’s Cuban doing arguing with and ejecting fans? LMFAO

ON to one Mr. Kidd

That was one of the more dispicable acts ive seen in awile on the court. Well actually since haywood’s attempted lob pass of leuniverse but you get my point. If not for pargo’s reflexes to get his hands down he’d probably still be in the hospital now. They HAVE to suspend him. Nice way to deal with the pressure jason. And dont look now Stack, but it seems like your teammate might be the punk, not byron scott. Jason should be making his retirement plans, he has ZERO value and only a total FOOL would give him the monster extension he’s seeking. Well, considering his employer he should be inking that deal this summer.

As for the cleveland/washington series, my worst fears have been realized. It’s spilled off the court to the streets. ANd how pitiful is it for Jay Z to be the first one putting out diss records? Man, you 40 years old, rich, and just married one of the baddest chicks (who’s also rich) out there. Can you not find anything else to do? I hate attention whores like him.

George Karl is an idiot. I repeat my statement of the total ridiculousness of him trying to have martin on kobe. George, you’re losing by 20 a night. The strategy is NOT helping you fat, medicine ball headed mo fo!!!

Got more but i’ll wait on some responses.

MeanDovine

Let’s just say the welcome home was all that it could be and more.

I’ve been mulling over why it is that the Suns, Mavericks and Nuggets have failed so miserably thus far. It’s been the coaching and the total lack of communication between the players themselves and their excuting the phases and strategies set out for them by their respective coaches. That’s not to say that the coaches themselves aren’t without blame. As they’ve failed to adapt when needed.

tophatal …………

in avery’s defense, i think he’s being put in a pickle. same with d’antoni. shaq and kidd are/have been great players, but i refuse to throw those two (and their brilliant careers) under the bus for their teams failure.

the suns and teh mavs are two teams that made big trades that changed their character, or at least attempted to. the mistake of those trades were because they were made as reactions to other trades in the league, rather than for the sake of making a good fit for the team.

THE SUNS:
traded for a big. shaq changes the entire look for the suns. generally speaking, d’antoni just isn’t the coach for that kind of game. he’s a master of the run-and-gun offense and shaq, beast that he is, just doesn’t fit. there’s more, but as a spurs fan, i’ll leave it at that in fear of running my mouth.

THE MAVS:
they traded for jason kidd, one of the best pg’s this league has ever seen. forget about him being in his decline for a moment. kidd wants to run the show. when he is allowed to roam the floor like the floor general he is, he’s at his best. he was brought in for his split-second decision making and his ability to run a team on the fly.

only problem is, his teammates are used to the other ‘general’ call the shots and pretty much look like they are lost when avery doesn’t call plays for them. in turn, kidd is lost whenever johnson wants to call some plays; the way he’s used to coaching. guess it all looks good on paper, but in reality, johnson and kidd are like oil and water; their styles just don’t mix.

in both cases, the coaches are required to attempt to change their and their teams’ character, and just like its not possible for a hormonal woman to keep her temper, or for lindsay lohan to stop on a dime during a traffic stop, it’s not possible for a team to change who they are on a whim, or coz the new player dictates it.

its the same reason the Nuggets are going to get swept by the lakers. attempting to outscore your opponents is fine, but if your offense fails, you are left to rely on stopping the other team and that just isn’t happening. not only because of the individual players on that defensively anemic Denver squad, but because it’s not in their minds to play defense. it’s not who they are.

TOP, i have to disagree with you

The reason ‘allas, ‘enver and phoenix are getting SMACKED around is because none of the 3 teams play DEFENSE!!!!!

The mavs used to try to, but cuban traded away 2 of their best 3 defenders to get Jason Kidd.

The suns traded away their best defender for Shaq.

And my thoughts and feelings on ‘enver are well documented. LOL @ a broke-kneed PF trying to check the premier scoring guard in the league.

Afternoon, RIDGE! How was lunch?

Right off the bat …

J-Ho played himself like a sucker. He’s gonna either have to go clean the rest of his career or he’s gonna be out of the league. not only will David Stern be random testing his ass like crazy now, but Dallas PD is gonna be sweating him in his car and at his crib.

Dude’s admission was plain stupid. Now he dun eff’ed it up for everybody else.

Who knew ‘Big D’ stood for Big Dumb?

As for Cuban, throw him right in there with J-Ho …

The Mavs are just plain frustrated.

———–

Everybody’s talking about J-Kidd’s foul, but I’ve always had Jim pegged. Jason’s a little dickling who never measured up to his women, his game, or his minimalist triple-doubles. Jason’s days are numbered.

——–

Jay-Z has been looking for a way to put New York back on the hip-hop map for two years now. Leave it to DeShawn Stevenson to give him an in. Hell, don’t these ballers know, dis songs get you shot these days.

———-

I have no idea why George Karl got an extension. None.

——–

Hurry back with more. Let’s party, and bring the ‘dro.

8)

kd, dropping knowledge!

Bring it, brother!

Well said …

:)

But please try harder to change my mind about Jason Kidd. I’ve never been a big fan.

Man mean i wish i could archive my posts here.

I KNOW i predicted this failure for the mavs and i pegged kidd.

Cant score, cant defend=Dallas is done

ANd you’re right about howard, the hip hop police are gonna be all on his ass. Why you would come out and SAY some shit like that, EVER but much less in the middle of your teams playoffs? ON A GOT DAMN SYNDICATED SHOW?!?

ROFL!!!!!!

Must’ve sprinkled a little dust in there, he just CANT be that damn dumb can he?

Congrats though Howard, you have just turned yourself into the LEPORD of the nba and the streets.

What an idiot.

Absolutely right Dictator David is CHOMPING AT THE BIT to institute some new drug testing rules etc.

ANd the players union now cant say a damn thing in their defense.

Dumbest shit since stoudemire tried to smuggle the chronic in ALUMINUM FOIL in a CARRY ON BAG at an INTERNATIONAL airport.

*DEAD*

And EXTRA props for that pic of him yanking his shorts

CLASSIC

RIDGE,

J-Ho looks like he needs a puff or a hit of something real bad.

Like you, I too thought the photo was classic.

Re: archiving your posts …

Where are they now?

Did you know you can create a Wordpress blog free at Wordpress.org then archive them there. You can even restrict them from going out to the Internet if you want to keep them private.

MeanD,

you seem to share the same taste towards jason kidd as my wife does: you both don’t have a taste for this journey-man.

i’ve never really followed his career, but to my limited knowledge, he was always a great competitor. he played above average on the ball defense in his better days, he always sees the floor and is unselfish to the point where he sometimes needs to be begged by his coaches/teammates to shoot the ball more often.

i don’t know if you are making his 100 triple doubles less than they are, or the media is over-inflating those numbers. to compare him with the big O, i guess, is simply an insult to Oscar. but to belittle his accomplishments as to calling them mediocre, is in my opinion, quite a reach as well. any player who makes it to the NBA and manages to consistently put up those numbers is worthy of my admiration.

yet he isn’t without deficiencies; domestic problems aside, he was a cancer to the nets’ locker room. his constant bickering and trade demands drew a toll on that franchise. he is one of the players i despise for that same reason: you signed a contract, honor it. simple as that.

i hate trade demands. they leave the club with nothing. well, that might not be the case here, since the nets, i believe, got a great package for kidd. but it leaves the club with two options: forcing a trade that they might not have done without the demands of their alleged star or, they’ll rescind any demands for a trade and be stuck with a disgruntled, playing-less-than-capable player.

jason kidd could have been so much more, and so much less at the same time.

kd,

I certainly don’t want to belittle Kidd’s triple-doubles, but I don’t put them in the same league as Oscar’s or Magic’s. After all, many of Kidd’s triple-doubles barely got over the threshold.

But as you say, any player making it to the pros is a huge accomplishment. Still, a player didn’t get there to be satisfied with just getting there. He got there to perform and to make a name for himself via his game. In this regard, Kidd was successful. But I’ve always found his triple doubles overrated. Heck, he lost a lot of games in which he had them, which has always been bothersome to me.

Plus his shooting is so bad. Always has been, but at least he’s willing.

I’m not judging Kidd on the domestic front either, although lots of women do. I just wonder how much further his career would have gone had he managed to keep his women troubles in the background where they belonged. It seems that Jason never fully recovered from being jilted by R&B singer Toni Braxton for, of all people, Kidd’s teammate, Jimmy Jackson. So in summation, we’re in agreement, Jason could have been so much more, and so much less at the same time.

MeanD,

sounds about right.

and how could i forget one of his biggest on-court flaws: his shooting?

my bad.

No, I think you put his shooting in perspective, bro.

Perhaps I was a little too harsh on him? I always have been.

So, my bad.

:)

He looks like K Ci belting out that “feinding” song

LMAO!!!!!!!

RIDGE

Defense, shamefense, or any sort of fence would be appreciated from these triumvirate of teams.

As to J-How’, how the hell does that guy look at his teammates in the eyes after berating ‘em like that? Chances are that they just wanna’ take his ass out into an alley and kick the livin’ crap out of him. Call your ‘boys’ out in the locker room but not in public. Isn’t that suppose to be a cardinal rule? Keep your shi*t behind closed doors and don’t air it out in public. It just goes to his level of lack of apparent maturity at this time. I for one now want to see ‘em bounced out of the playoffs once and for all.

tophatal ……….

RIDGE,

That’s exactly what I was thought …

LOL!!!

Guys

About the only thing that Kidd may well have in his favor is that he knows how to pick up and beat up his women. Both he and his ex are friggin’ crazy! After Jouamana who’s going to be the next Mrs Kidd? There’s gotta be one or two women who are willing to slide up and down a pole for him?

tophatal ……..

TOP, you got issues … and you’re crazy.

:)

Mean – Some of the people commenting on this post need to STOP giving J-KIDD excuses as to why he is eating dick with the Mavs. He was bad with Jersey this year and he’s been just as crap with Dallas. Only difference is he can’t hide out in the LEast. And, the problem with Kidd’s actions on Pargo is that IF he knew what he was doing I’d actually find that to be worse. If Pargo doesn’t get his hand down we’re talking about a severe head and neck injury – or worse.

I said Phoenix in 7 before this all started and though there is a glimmer of hope I can’t see San Antonio blowing a 3-0 lead. That’s just un-Spurs like.

I agree with the Detroit statements. The blame can be placed on Rip, Chauncey and Rasheed. They are supposedly the best players on that team and they need to act like they want it. I feel like Rip and Chauncey especially seem to be going through the motions. They have to lead the Pistons if they want to go deeper than the conference final.

Toronto loses to Orlando tonight – book it. That means you can begin the R.I.P section. Later bro.

MeanDovine

It’s not me the PD blotters are there to prove it.
Word just in Riles’ has announced his resignation as the Heat’s coach. And in the process he’s named 37 year old assistant Erick Spoelstra the new head coach. So I guess that’s one job that Larry Brown has missed out on then?

Now if he plays his cards right he’ll end up alongside MJ in Charlotte and further ruin that particular franchise irreparably beyond what it is already. How bad do things have to get before someone tells Mike sit your as*s down and let someone with knowledge of player personnel run this team and franchise more adroitly? As it is it makes what he achieved in Washington seem almost admirable. Instead of progressing the Bobcats’ franchise has become a shambles. They’ve got some real studs there but no one with the coaching ability to coach. And at the same time I for one can’t see Brown staying there beyond two years. ’cause it’ll take longer than that to turn the franchise around completely and make’ em really competitive. ‘cept for Michael and his damn ego the franchise should’ve been a lot better than it is at present. Hate to say it bro’ but MJ’s knowledge of player personnel can be written on the back of a first class stamp and be posted to Timbuktu. That way it’d be of more value in terms of the postage. As for me being crazy that’s the insightful side of me coming out. And hell I can’t be any crazier than the current occupant of the White House. Bush is a friggin’ loon!

tophatal ……….

TOP, LMFAO @ that MJ rant!!!

He’s so clueless

Although i thought he did the right thing drafting morrison, remains to be seen

But damn mike, at the very least you were down 2 of your top 7 players from the beginning (without you bringing in any help i might add) in morrison and may

Then you have crash in and out of the lineup and a rookie coach trying to do something with a lineup that was questionable to begin with even including those guys

WTF DID YOU EXPECT VINCENT TO DO WITH THAT ISH, MAKE THE PLAYOFFS?!?

Then you allow these players, who i will add have done NOTHING in their careers in the way of what counts: winning and producing on the court, to run the assylum?!?

Mike, please fall back. Just use your ownership share to take care of your expenses (gambling, broads) and let your sweatshops i mean sneakers take care of the divorce settlement and just let the rest sit and bubble. You dont have to be the man. You’re not anymore man just accept it.

And god PLEASE let larry brown break his other hip so no one can hire him (not to wish bad on him im just saying)

Aint he like 70 years old with a 3 year old? Dont you think being around to raise the child is more important than stroking your coaching ego? You got your ring, you are NOT getting one in charlotte and they dont need you to save their team.

Excuse me, i gotta go puke right quick.

Dan,

I’m with you but I try to respect every man’s opinion, as well as what he/she may see that I may not. But Kidd has never been my cup of tea, and it aint personal. This is why I respect your opinion on the matter even more, because I know you are an open forum guy too.

Still, I have been hearing the excuses for Kidd’s game for the past five years now, as soon as it became apparent that he would likely never win a title.

As for his foul on Pargo, I just don’t get the no suspension call by the NBA. Eh?

Tell me which was worse:

1. Amare and Diaw leaving the bench last year against the Spurs, which resulted in two suspensions …

or

2. The bush league, head first slam Kidd put on Pargo.

The NBA’s decision on this one defies logic.

———-

Though it is unlikely that Phoenix will come back against the Spurs, it was good to see them at least fight for one game. Let’s see if Denver can do the same thing tonight.

———-

Somehow I get the feeling that Rip, Chauncey, and ‘Sheed are still in mourning about Brown’s loss. It must be hard for Flip trying to coach a group of guys who won a title under one coach, using his system, but won’t relent enough to give Flip’s system a chance.

The hubris coming out of Detroit is worse than all the auto emissions in the entire Midwest combined.

It’s that bad …

————-

So if Toronto loses is Mitchell done?

Hit me back, bro.

Yep Top, Riles dun quit …

It’s a bout time. But what can we do to make he it stays that way. At least with Spoelstra he has a lieutenant in whose business and coaching affairs he can meddle.

At any rate, Riley had a great record going for him until this season. And although this season’s numbers won’t be too much of a drag on his resume, it wasn’t the prettiest way to go out.

————

Re: MJ

I hate to agree with you, but I agree with you.

What’s more telling, when MJ got the Washington gig, Jerry Reinsdorf had to choose his words very carefully when assessing Michael’s chances of doing some real good with for the franchise. Unfortunately, it turns out Reinsdorf’s reservations were correct.

As for Charlotte, again, you’re right, they should be better. There is a lot of talent on that team, but why MJ insists on choosing unproven commodities is beyond me. It’s almost like he’s deliberately following in the footsteps of the Clippers’ Elgin Baylor.

With Bob Johnson obviously not knowing what he’s doing, the franchise is lost. Now, with Brown rumored to be coming in, things can get dicey. Larry is a nomad. Always has been and always will be. And he likes control, as does MJ. But I’m getting conflicting reports. On the one hand, I heard that Brown said he wasn’t interested in the Charlotte job, but that he’d at least listen. Apparently someone must have gotten to him to tell him that Charlotte might be as good as it gets after the way he departed Detroit and New York, so Brown has apparently weighed his options.

The bottom line is, MJ is looking for the same elixir Isiah was looking for in hiring Brown, someone who will buy MJ time to right the ship, while at the same time taking the pressure off MJ.

Like Riley, I think time and the modern game has passed some of these old-heads by.

But what do I know, right?

Holler back, tophat!

“With Bob Johnson obviously not knowing what he’s doing, the franchise is lost. ”

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanna go on record and say it was the right and a classy move for riley to step down. This season was bad on and off the court for the heat. He needed to step back, and i commend him for setting his ego aside and seeing the bigger picture.

I just wished instead of immediately naming his successor that he at least did a couple of interviews.

You know, Jeff Van Gundy and a couple other guys.

Hey RIDGE,

Riley hand picked Spoelstra last year to be his successor. The only holdup was Billy Donovan who I believe the Heat wanted but couldn’t touch after Donovan reneged on another pro coaching gig, so the job defaulted back to Spoelstra.

Riley may be done walking the sidelines, but he’s hardly done coaching. Spoelstra will give Riley plenty of opportunity to stick his hand in the brew.

Yeah, i think you’re right, i remember now.

LOL @ him just going upstairs where he can pull the puppets strings invisibly.

Holy shit. This was a whole bunch of knowledge to drop in one post. I going to have to come back and read the International tidbits later.

A few thoughts:
Who in their right mind would think going on Michael Irvin’s show on the day of a playoff game and talking about smoking would be a good idea. But at least Howard kept it real. Michael Irvin” “It’s my boy’s, I swear … he got a problem.”
—–
I don’t mind Josh Smith jawing it up with Boston, but Al Horford needs to shut up …
—–
Kenny Smith is carried by Charles and Ernie, and after such a long season that whole trio’s schtick is starting to wear on me
———–
Dwight Howard is NOW
———-
How come George Karl is a bad coach all of a sudden just because management built a sh*t team?
———
Gilbert shouldn’t be playing. Is he putting his career at risk to participate in a reduced fashion? We are all witnesses, resistance is futile….

Evening Lefty!!!

How about a little game of point-by-point:

1. Re: Michael Irvin’s show

LOL! I just don’t get it, my brother. Why, Josh? Nobody had to know. Not that I’m condoning your habit, but it was just that, “your private habit.”

2. Josh was filthy, and it was great to see. Whereas I found it funny that Horford got in Pierce’s grill, his actions did remind me a bit of Joakim Noah’s big mouth in Chicago. It’s one thing to run your mouth, it’s another to run your mouth and back it up. As we speak, Horford is 1-6 FGs for a whopping 6 points, with the Celtics up by 10, so you’re right.

3. TNT’s shtick is beginning to wear thin, but who’s gonna tell ‘em? They probably wouldn’t listen anyway. I do like Ernie’s game, however.

4. Dwight Howard scored 21 points and pulled down 21 rebounds tonight as the Magic eliminated the Raptors. Again, agreed, Howard is NOW!

5. I’ve always found George Karl to be a bad coach because he has a history of exchanging a lot of public unpleasantries with his players and former players. He has a long and accomplished history, but he just doesn’t seem that have that upper echelon gear that top-tier coaches have. Suffice it to say, I’m not a George Karl fan. I have my reasons.

6. Why Gilbert came back is beyond me. The Wizards were playing so well without him. Now, as you say, he’s risking further damage to that knee, when he should be blogging.

That’s it, bro.

Good job!

8)

———-

Oops, Lefty, looks like the Hawks are going to pull this one out. Maybe Horford motivated his boys.

Good questions Mean. Lets go in order…

- The Kidd play was worse than Diaw and Amare leaving the bench on the bodycheck by Robert Horry. However, we know the rules and based on the rules they deserved the suspension. Bad rule rather than a bad call. Nonetheless, Kidd is lucky Pargo got his hands down on the floor first. Otherwise there would have been a stretcher involved.

- Now that Toronto is gone, Mitchell may be out as well – but I would not count on it. A few reasons:

1) There has been very little talk about Sam’s job being in jeopardy in the city. I would say his approval rating is about 50/50, which isn’t great but isn’t that bad.

2) Crazier things have happened, but do you cut the 2007 coach of the year just like that?

3) Who would be Bryan Colangelo’s guy?

4) Is there someone around that makes you say, “my team has to grab THAT coach”? I don’t know if there is a guy out there that must be scooped up. The group that owns the Raptors don’t like to spend money.

That said, Colangelo would have to hit bullseye with a relative unknown so they don’t have to rob a bank to pay this guy.

Lastly, I know you gave it to my boy Kenny Smith and I can respect that. I know guys get carried away or say something dumb, you just hope its not offensive-dumb. But Kenny is the go-to guy on that desk. Magic is conservative and Barkley mumbles at times. Kenny’s the whole package.

Bro enjoy the night and hopefully I hit you back with what you were looking for. Later…

You hit a home run, bro.

Thanks, and much appreciated.

And I also like Kenny’s analysis, even if he doesn’t always enunciate it clearly. Still, he’s not nearly as bad as Barkley’s mumbling and slurring.

Good night.

Ernie Johnson is the best in the biz; if he’s not better than BIG then he’s the closest one.

Jokes, but for real: Almost nobody could hold together some semblance of format with Kenny Magic and Charles running amock.

Plus, on some real talk, it took some real STONES for him to go on air and HOLD IT DOWN when he had that illness that was F-ing up his face and whatnot.

Can’t believe C’s are 2-2 with ATL.

Great piece here, Mean.

Josh Howard-Nothing like drawing attention to oneself for the wrong reason, is there? I didn’t hear the entire interview, so I’m kind of wondering how the conversation got steered in that direction. But coupled with Carmelo’s DUI arrest on the eve of the playoffs, I’d say they shot themselves in the feet. Not sure why, but I got the munchies all the sudden . . .

I guess I should come right out and say it, if I haven’t before. I never understood why Kidd was viewed as a great point guard. Over the last 15 years or so, I’ve seen firsthand he, KJ, Nash, and Marbury. I’d rank Kidd fourth among those for talent and the ability to make his team better. Just my opinion. I’m sure some would take Kidd over Marbury, but speaking only from a Suns fan perspective while they were here, at least Marbury could score, and had talent that jumped out at you. Hard to fathom what he may have done with proper coaching and in the right situation. Look at the titles won by Tony Parker, Dennis Johnson, Gus Williams, BJ Armstrong, etc. Think any basketball coach would draft/recruit any of those over Marbury? Well, I suppose a few would. Guys like Dean Smith and Red Auerbach, I suppose. But what the hell do they know.

I was reviewing some of my notes earlier tonight and I came across something I had written in capital letters. That Boris Diaw was not ready for prime time. CAPS with an exclamation point after it. And then he goes and does that last night. That is the enigma that is Boris Diaw. Apparently he needs to start, like Leandro Barbosa. Both are better there than coming off the bench. Not sure why, but the stats and team record bears it out.

‘enver. Playing like Ph’enix did the first three games. In other wrs, no D and O at the same time. Those teams can play one or the other it seems, but not both in the same quarter.

I also gotta give Houston credit. (And myself as well). I stated that Utah would win, but Houston wouldn’t make it easy for them. And for the last time, I’m tired of hearing of how McGrady hasn’t made it out of the first round. I’d take him in a heartbeat.

I find it interesting that we all looked forward to the playoffs, then were taken aback with all the 2-0 starts, only to be drawn back in by the series that were tightened up a bit. Save the Lakers/Nuggets, it looks like the NBA is faaaaantastic once again.

Oh, I almost forgot. Stellar job on the Board.

And I really, really want to go off on David Stern here for what I felt and what thedan said earlier; compare Kidd’s infraction to someone taking a few steps off the bench. Well, provided there’s an altercation. If there’s not, apparently one is allowed to leave the bench . . .

aw, screw it.

Speaking of lane violations – okay, we weren’t, but I am now – how is it that Shaq gets called for three while he’s shooting, but Timmy Duncan never gets whistled for an automatic violation for taking longer than 10 seconds to shoot a free throw?

Damn, I’m getting all worked up again. Where’s my medicine? Is my pizza here yet? Damn, I’m hungry.

Yep, Lefty, C’s are now 2-2 …

Ricko,

Evening brother!!!

Love the commentary, as usual.

Uh, that D that ‘enver is missing. It is rumored that Josh Howard stole it to spell his nickname, “Dumb.” As I understand it, he voluntarily made his admission, which is why it’s getting so much play.

I’m with you on Kidd, I’ve just really never been a huge fan of his game or his minimalist triple-doubles. Glad to know I’ve got company.

That Diaw and Barbosa are real pieces of work. I don’t get them or their lazy layups and flip shots. But that’s the army D’Antoni’s got to go to war with. Let’s see which two ballers show in Game 5. Would be nice to see a Suns win …

Wow, T-Mac, I just feel bad for the guy. He’s so deserving, yet might never know what it’s like to get out of the first round.

And that was actually me who made the comparison between Kidd’s flagrant foul and last years Amare and Diaw suspensions. As far as my comparison is concerned, there is none. It’s just plain lunacy. Kidd should be suspended.

Hey, is that pizza there yet? I’m on my way to your crib.

In a minute, bro …

Thanks for the terrific commentary.

Looking forward to your Wednesday post.

Holler!!!

Maybe the sooner Dallas is bounced the sooner J-Ho can get down for that High Times cover shoot. I bet they called his agent already.

Mean,

I saw it too! Kidd? But New Orleans will destroy them anyway.

Suns just don’t get a fair shake on them calls and I’m not sure why that is. Some of the calls on Shaq & Stat I have to wonder?

I’m hoping my team responds in San Antonio. We are the better team with a coach who lost one for us.

I guess if I were talking to the team it would be a four a win streak is not out of there capabilities.

I remember Westphaul saying we’d win the rest after being down 3-1 to LA?

We did!

I remember LA being down to us in 1971 3-1 and coming back.

I would sure love to see a 0-3 team come back and win!

GO SUNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mean Dovine
It’s now rumored that MJ and Brown’ll meet to discuss terms of a potential contract offering. There goes another $35-$40m down ther drain once again. Like I said Crazy Larry doesn’t often like to stay in one place for too long. At the first sign of a real problem he’ll bolt for the hills and make up sort of excuse.
….

Tom
I like that approach of reminiscing but do live in the here and now. It’s about what you’d want to see your Suns do. Not about what was done in the past by someone else.

……

RIDGE

It was the classy thing to do alright for Riley. Much like the classy thing to do in getting rid of Van Gundy the way that he did. But I guess you can say that Stan is now having the last laugh ? As for Riley and his pious ass, he’s better off suited to the front office after bailing out on the team once again. He’s never been the one to stare adversity straight in the face and deal with it head when it comes to the game of basketball. That way now he and his arthritic hips can spend those off days at Turnberry Isles Golf Resort & CC.
And he can spend some more time with his fellow retirees and snowbirds.

If we really want to make sure that Riley stays quit. Let’s make sure that his proctolgist makes house calls to the Heat front office and regularly shceduled appointments for at least twice a week for the usual rectal examination! That particular examination would definitely keep Riley’ ass quiet.

As to Mitchell in Toronto, his days shouldn’t be numbered. It’s the roster that seriously needs to be looked at. Surround Bosh, Calderon and Ford with better players and that’d be a step in the right direction right off the bat! As for Bargnani that guy is about as useful to the team as a used condom would be to a hooker out for a night on the town. She’s going to want something far more reliable, just like the Raptors are in need of someone better than Bargnani.

This guy makes Shawn Bradley seem like a gifted athlete. And that’s saying a lot at this juncture!

topahtal ……….

TopHat – I’m not for firing Mitchell either. He’s a tough guy, and I think he’s the right type of coach there.

As for Bargnani, could that end up being a worse pick than Darko?

How do you take a guy from Italy?

That’s Bryan Colangelo trying to be too smart for his own good.

Should’ve been you, Lamarcus Aldridge, Ty Thomas, Rudy Gay, or how about BRANDON ROY…

Hey Tom!

Sorry I missed you. Let’s chat after the Suns game tonight!

:)

Lefty,

I wrote a stinging piece on Fox Blogs after the Bargnani selection first went down. I might have to re-post it.

Some internationals develop slow so I’m willing to give him two more years.

i think international draft prospects get hyped by the media way too much.

“so some kid dominated the Uganda Pro Basketball league. tough? of course he’s tough, they fight lions down there.”

any more questions?

no?

great? #1 pick it is!

boneheads.

everybody’s looking for the next manu, the next dirk or sabonis and the hype goes out the roof. that ends up being the draft prospects’ downfall, as well. bargnani was dubbed the next great player from europe, and he wants to be like dirk. mitchel wants him to be like schayes, but andrea doesn’t even know who that is.

plus, who drafts a dude named andrea anyway?

seriously, hindsight is always 20-20, but let someone else grab him, they (international players) develop so slow, and you’ll just never know how they’ll end up for sure (insert Forrest Gump quote here).

WOW, Celts are in a serious fight here.

I am surprised, but the hawks have been seriously underrated just because of their record. The record really doesnt reflect the team as they are now though, post bibby.

Down goes ‘enver.

If i were iverson, id opt out and get the hell out of dodge.

If i were ‘enver, i would assume the position on my knees in front of iverson promising to can karl and trade melo.

Did you see how the lakers were 3 deep on iverson everytime he got the ball in the 4th quarter? EVERYONE was watching him off the ball? THAT’S how you play defense, not just throw your best defender on a guy regardless of how it affects the rest of the team. Sorry, i still think having kenyon under the boards to rebound and intimidate would be far more helpful than him chasing kobe aroung 30 feet from the basket.

ANd dont look now, but for all you haters there’s JR Smith ballin again. Maybe you should give that kid his 30-40 minutes a night eh?

And this whole Cavs/Wiz thing is out of control with raps and crap all involved now.

But i cant tell you how happy i was to hear the complete and total SONNING that DC cat layed on Jay and Lebron

ROFL!!!!

Damn, kd!

Talkin’ a little smack this morning. I like it.

So true, though.

About the raptors, its definately the roster and not the coach that’s the problem

They HAVE to move bargnani this summer no matter the cost or egg on their face.

Stupid to draft him in the first place as he and bosh are both locked in at the 4 for their whole careers. Neither will ever be big or strong enough to play the post and the 5 and neither will ever be quick enough to cover 3’s. He’s gotta go. Get some toughness and a thicker bench.

I like Nesterovic though.

Great topics all, RIDGE!

I knew Joe Johnson and crew would be tough because both he and Josh Smith made my Big Board, but I never in my wildest dreams saw a 2-2 series.

Denver is nothing more than a regular season squad that can win games and get the crowd hyped. But as serious contenders, they are eons away …

I don’t know what to make of the ‘Melo-Karl situation. But I don’t see Denver trading ‘Melo. Who would they get?

I had hoped for years that J.R. Smith would be shipped to Miami. I always knew that kid had big time game, but he was a young hothead too. Now that he’s found a little balance in his life, as well as some playing time, he’s alright …

I would say the Cavs-Wiz are out of control too, but for all the hate the Wiz are throwing at Lebron, the Cavs are up 3-1, so there really isn’t much for Washington to say. Just win another game fellas.

8)

——–

You might be right about Bargnani, but I’m gonna give his game at least two more years. Still, moving him wouldn’t be a bad idea.

I also think Mitchell should keep his job.

Great post, Mean!

All I have to say is, WTF is wrong with Josh Howard?

Why in the hell would he even bring up his penchant for smoking weed? Did someone ask him? Was he high on that ish at the time of the interview? What would possess you to divulge such information, especially when your team is in the playoffs. I could almost understand if you said it during the off season (still woulda been stupid, but not as bad) And, to make matters worse you throw your NBA brethren under the bus by implicating them too. You know they’ll probably schedule drug screening any day now. Are you trying to get an old fashioned alley whippin’ Josh? And on top of all that, you played like you were high. You’s a stupid summa bish Josh, REEAAAAAAL stupid.

I was shocked at the way J. Kidd almost tore off Pargo’s head in that game. He could’ve done serious damage to that guy. It was disappointing to see him take his frustrations out like that. Not cool J. Kidd, not cool. I for one will be glad to see Dallas go home. Whose the suckas now Stackhouse? Shame on you for talking smack to Byron Scott, when Charlotte has run a clinic on your team the whole series save one game. How many rings have you won Stack, and how many has Byron Scott won?

As for the Suns, too much, too little, too late. You wait until you’re down 3 -1 to play like a team possessed? Save it. I don’t know Kerr, I hate to say it, but your Shaq experiment may make you look like an idiot. I’m not saying that Shaq is the reason for the Suns bad play, but they thought they would fair way better with him on the team. NOT.

As for the Lakers and Nuggets series, it really sickens me that the Lakers came out victorious. Denver just seemed to not care and said screw it from the jump. Were y’all smoking that ish like Josh? I was hoping for an upset like last year’s Mavs and Warriors series. Oh well, c’est la vie.

Furthermore, I hope that Kobe person doesn’t get the MVP this year. You threw your whole organization under the bus earlier in the year, supposedly cleaned out your locker and pretty much considered yourself a Chicago Bull (thank God they didn’t get him) and you should get rewarded because why? Your team realized that you’re a flake and a suck leader so they took matters into their own hands and gelled as a TEAM? Oh, I get it. I think CP3 deserves it hands down.

Poor, poor Houston. I was really thinking (and hoping) that T-Mac and company would make it outta the first round this time. They just can’t seem to get it firing on all cylinders can they? If it’s not one thing it’s another. Oh well, there’s always next year Tracy.

Well, I’ve rambled on enough Mean. Sorry. I’ll go now.

Deuces.

Never be sorry for rambling here, Miz. B.!

It’s allowed and encouraged …

Hey, I’ll let others read and review your comments before I respond.

We don’t get much by way of the female persuasion around here.

Gotta cherish it while we can.

Yo me and my boy were at the gentlemans club last night and he was going on and on about how doo doo Joe Johnson was and he shouldnt have been an all star

“dude, you know he’s had several 30pt 15 ast games this year right? Dude nice as hell you trippin.”

So when we left after the lakers game and i heard it on the radio you know i had to call.

“yeah, JJ had 20 in the fourth. 35 in total if you need em.”

Mad game. His j is pretty to watch.

Think ainge would take a mulligan on trading him?

“so some kid dominated the Uganda Pro Basketball league. tough? of course he’s tough, they fight lions down there.”

No lie about JJ’s game, RIDGE!

With a little more consistency he might become Joe of old again, as in Phoenix old. He was so good with that squad.

” You’s a stupid summa bish Josh, REEAAAAAAL stupid.”

Definately misbehaving with that one lol

“How many rings have you won Stack, and how many has Byron Scott won?”

OWNED

My sentiments exatly. Stackhouse is the prototype for the selfish NBA baller throughout his career. Dont let the fact he’s seemingly cool with his bench role fool you. He just knows he aint starting anywhere else either, and MORK Cuban probably goes down on him weekly (no offense to the lady im just saying)

Stack has done NOTHING in his career but get booted from team to team. This from a guy who has HOF talent.

Waiting for Bargnani to mature into a top line player is much like asking Britney Spears to skip wearing nothing but a bra and panties when she goes out shopping with the paparazzi in tow. You know it just ain’t gonna happen.

Like I alluded to before he maks Shawn Bradley seem like a gifted multi talented athlete.

tophatal ……….

Lefty

Colangelo is a smart front office excutive. But on this he shouldn’t have let country loyalties intervene. This was a wasted pick that’ll end up costing the franchise money in the long run.

tophatl ……….

Lefty,

Maturation is definitely a difference, but I think the biggest difference and you touch on it, is the system Phoenix played. Those guys were the ultimate high wire act.

After Joe fractured his orbital bone he was a bit reluctant for about a year. If not reluctant, he certainly wasn’t the same player.

However, now, with Josh Smith and a few athletic cohorts, Joe is earning his wings again.

As far as I’m concerned, this Hawks season has been a resounding success.

The question is, can they build on it.

With Marion and Wade in Miami, with a top draft pick in the wings …

And Brown now with that talented group they’ve got in Charlotte, the East will be a dog fight next year.

So can the Hawks continue to grow?

And has Mike Woodson secured his job?

TOP, WOW @ that pic

Is that the outline of a nipp, nevermind

PROPS

RIDGE,

Had the Suns been able to retain Joe Johnson and Marion two years ago, D’Antoni would have gotten that run ‘n’ gun breakthrough he was looking for. But it wasn’t meant to be. Stacked teams like that are hopeless to keep together. After all, there’s only one ball.

Still, I would love to have seen that particular Phoenix team get a little more run.

Ridge,

As for Neanderthal Man, Stackhouse (Doesn’t he look like the man on the Evolution picture? You know the one of the progression of man?)he needs to club his wife over the head, drag her back to their cave, and hibernate. FOREVER. My manager is good friends with him and jocks him on a regular. I told her yesterday that her boy was a punk and needs to shut the hell up. He will never get a ring and I doubt he will make the Hall of Fame. Like you said, he’s been bounced around from team to team his whole career. Could it be that he’s just ahight as a player? He saw his best days with the Pistons. Just except it Stack, it aint in the cards fo’ ya playa. Maybe he’ll have better luck with his singing career. NOT!!!!

I just despise athletes who talk major ish and have nothing to show for it. Especially, when they talk it to someone who’s been to the Promised Land. It’s like, get a clue and maybe learn something from the somebody.

No offense taken regarding “Mork” Cuban. He is a classic example of nerd boy who now has money and is still a nerd boy. He looks like he’s not wrapped real tight. Matter fact, I don’t think he’s even loosely packaged. Dude has issues.

Peeps –

In regard to Coach Woodson keeping his job, is it irrational to say that may hinge on whether or not a guy like Mike D’Antoni becomes available?

Just saying

Miz. B.,

In all fairness to Josh, and I’m gonna be real here, he comes from a severe at-risk, drug environment (Parents) which left him to be raised by his grandmother and I believe his great grandmother. Both were his life support and backbone. Unfortunately, he lost both last year.

As a child, Josh was born with severely bowed legs. He had to wear the most God-awful brace for years to straighten them. I believe he also had surgery too. I am familiar with this because I had a brother who was born with the same condition, so he had to wear the same brace. The doctors also wanted to break his legs to straighten them but my mother opted for the brace only. As a result, my brother’s legs are still bowed, just not as severely.

Life is hard enough as it is, so if Josh lost his support group I can imagine how easy it is to get off track and say things he shouldn’t. I don’t want to offer excuses for the guy, but his life must be pretty tough right about now. He’s probably still grieving.

————-

Jason Kidd should be suspended for tonight’s game. Simple as that. His foul on Pargo was totally uncalled for. I refuse to give Kidd anymore of my time.

———

Perhaps it is too little too late for the Suns, but at least they didn’t go out like Denver. Let’s see if the Suns have a little fight left in them.

Still, Shaq is not to blame for the team’s poor play. That series should be no less than 2-2 right now. In all actuality, it should be 3-1 …

But we’re talking about the World Champion Spurs here …

The Suns should have known better than to take such a formidable team for granted.

———-

Stackhouse needs to get a clue then a life, then a retirement plan. For him to rip on B. Scott was totally unprofessional, but it made for a great soundbite. I loved it! It was great theater. Still, Stack was out of line, as he will never be held in Scott’s esteem.

———–

The Lakers dusted the Nuggets off as they should have. Kobe will get the MVP award, but I understand why you have a problem with it. If not for Gasol, the Lakers would have been a first round exit, if they even made the playoffs, so Kobe should give half the award to Pau.

As for Denver, they’re lost at seas without a paddle. I do not understand why George Karl always seems to squabble with his players and publicly. He’s had public beefs with Payton, Cassell, ‘Melo, and even coach Doc Rivers, etc., etc., etc.

Chill, by George! You’re the coach …

————

Too bad for T-Mac, but I’m getting tired of saying it. Maybe with a healthy Yao, they’ll have better luck next year.

Oh well, same ol’, same ol’ in Houston.

———-

Well, I’ve tried to match your ramble word for word …

How’d I do?

By the way, great commentary, Lil’ lady!

Keep it coming!

Lefty,

I can see that, but with these two big wins against the Celtics, one would think Woodson has given Hawks’ management reason for pause.

Toronto’s Sam Mitchell was in a similar situation last season.

imagine, just for 2 seconds, what the sports world would look like if the (lowly) hawks beat the mighty celtics?

wow.

in the words of hubie brown the other night: “unfathomable”.

LOL!

It would send shockwaves throughout the basketball world that’s for sure, kd.

Talk about the shot heard around the world …

But take it from me:

THE HAWKS WILL NOT WIN THE SERIES AGAINST THE CELTICS!

In all honesty, can you implicitly say that the Hawks don’t stand a cat in hell’s chance of usurping the Celtics? Based on what you’ve seen so far I’d say it’s the Celtics who ought to be worried at this juncture and not vice a versa.

Can you imagine what this’d do the psyche of the Beantown fans? Especially after the implosion of the Patriots in the Superbowl.

The triumvirate of the Celtics had better get their act together and prove that they’re the Three Amigos and not the ‘three limpin’ Stooges.

tophatal ……….

Guys on a sidenote MJ has now gotten his wish. He’s hired Larry Brown to coach the Bobcats. Now let’s see how long it’ll take before Brown either bolts for the hills or Michael realizes that Brown is taking too much of the limelight there in Charlotte. One thing for these two have ego’s that are larger than the size of Mt. Rushmore. It’s going to be hell for each of ‘em to derfer to one another under any circumstance.

And how ironic is that within 3 days of Brown bolting from the Sixers he gets offered the job in Charlotte? Is there some sort of pattern here with Larry and his antics? Less I forgot he pulled somewhat of similar stunt whilst he was in Detroit before bolting to the Knicks.

tophatal ………

Yes, Tophat, I can say, implicitly, that the Hawks don’t stand a chance of defeating the Celtics in this series. If they had homecourt advantage, then yes, but they don’t …

——

As for Charlotte, I don’t think either Brown or MJ can afford ego trips. If this experiment fails they’ll both never get another opportunity again.

Charlotte has a lot of good pieces, with the most important of all in Okafor. If Brown can get this young man to play to his potential the Bobcats should make vast improvement next year.

Here’s a vote for i hope they fail in charlotte.

And if the celts have any suspensions they are in a WORLD of trouble.

Hey Mean,

I think you matched my words pound for pound. I’d heard the story about Josh Howard and I felt bad for him. And then the violins began to play and all. However, that does not preclude you from dumbassedness (Is that a word?). I don’t care how hard knock your life was, stupid is, as stupid does.
——————————-

I hope Jason is suspended. He’s just mad like the rest of his loser team because they can hear the fat lady clearing her throat.
——————————–

I think the Spurs/Suns series is a fait de complete. They will strike the death blow next game.
——————————–

I have nothing else to say about the Lakers because every time I think about Kobe and him getting the MVP trophy, it makes me throw up a little bit in my mouth each time.
———————————

Love the Stackhouse comment. LOL!!!

———————————

WAH WAH Rockets. Houston we DEFINITELY have a problem.

————————————-

Oh, and I forgot to say, what’s up with Boston man? Are they tryin’ to get clowned like the Mavs did last year? I would hate to see the Big Three’s hard work be for nought.

Also, it kills me to say this but, I have to agree with you guys regarding M.J.’s front office basketball acumen. And y’all know I’m a die hard MJ and Chicago Bull fan. He was deadly on the court, but stinks up the joint as a Veep. I’ve always said that the superstars don’t make good coaches or V.P.’s.

Ridge,

I’m glad you liked my not so little tirade. I just couldn’t stop today. All these boneheads running around the NBA doing and saying stupid stuff, just gets the feathers all ruffled.

I wish Houston well, but that’s about all I can muster. They’re done!

Nothing left to say or do where MJ and LB are concerned except to wish them the best.

Bro, bro, bro, bro, bro…..

New Orleans know how to PUT THE DAGGER THROUGH THE BODY OF THE ENEMY!!! So much for “lack of experience”. I am glad they won after that stupid Kidd incident. San Antonio will be in for a long series Mean (and will whack Phoenix if the Suns make a gigantic comeback – unlikely).

I know you appreciate where I’m coming from so that’s why I’m flooding your message board. Later…

Of course I appreciate where you’re coming from, bro.

Always have and always will …

You’re helping to make this a wonderful post season experience at THE LEAGUE.

I appreciate that even more.

Yay, Dallas is history.

Great job, New Orleans!

It was time to send Stackhouse and Kidd to showers.

CONGRATULATIONS, SPURS!!!

CONGRATULATIONS, HORNETS!!!

Get ‘em next year, Suns.

Get ‘em next year, Mavericks.

Mean,
Ricko,
Toph,
Pump,

Well this year at least we Suns were beat fair and square ! A few no calls on Stat & Shaq but what the hell !
Hack a Shaq worked too. Well its all about winning. Shaq cost this win missing all them free shots at the line.

Great job Spur’s and Hornets !
I now pull for the Hornets ! CP3
I really like New Orleans. If Spurs match up on LA , I’ll pull for the Spur’s !

Boston and Detroit have their hands full ! Good to see teams not letting them blank them !

Great job Houston.

Suns need to rebuild a little ! Not a lot but add a couple. I’d really like to see Baron Davis in a Suns uniform. The Coaching style has to change too.

As for the East I guess watching Boston in the finals would be nice against LA ? I pull for anyone against LA !

Atlanta’s pick is not going to get us much. I’d trade the pick for a proven star. Grant Hill needs to retire. Pack him, the pick and another {Barbosa} for B.Davis ? Anthony in Denver could be had too since losing favor ?

Hey guys I’ll be off here over a week due to traveling to Washington !

But be back on May 12th ! I leave this Friday.

Toph ! Looks like you get to mouth off !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ricko & Pump ! I feel the pain too !

Tom
I’ll pour a drop of Curvoisier in your honor, bro!

It was a testy series but in the end the better team won. It was a given from the start and even though you doubted the brevitas of the Spurs. You just can’t take that team for granted. Which is what a great many of your compatriots did as Suns’ fans , especially Planet Orange. Obviously someone who wore his heart on his sleeve but thought very little with intellect from the start.

There’s throwin’ and talkin’ smack and then there’s throwin’ down and havin’ somethin’ substantiative to back up the argument.

I’ve a new post within the RSB site titled Uneasy Is The King Who Wears A Crown! I’d like your honest opinion and critique of the piece? I’ll look forward to reading your comments on the article in question.

And once again my commisserations on your Suns stumbling out of the series !

……

MeanDovine

Even in moments of triumph some of us Spurs’ fans can find the time to be magnanimous.

As to the question of the Hawks and Celtics they’ve yet to flip the switch. Pray tell why is that? And please don’t say it’s because the Hawks are a testy team. On paper alone the Celtics should have this team beat. So it’s got to be something more to it than that. Dare one say that the Celtics and their supporters became too complacent as to what they feel the result ought to be? Rather than playing the series out to its climax.

tophatal …..

Tom

It’s not about mouthin’ off but givin’ respect where it’s due. And that’s what’s been lost on a number of individuals here. I’ll pour a drop of Curvoisier in your honor and to that of your team. They put up somewhat of a resistance but it was never going to be enough. So many of the Suns’ fans judgement was clouded and all they could see was the forest but the trees. They came to this series with the wrong thinking and very little by way off substance as to how best to play and defeat the Spurs.

The same can be said of D’Antoni and his players who are and still remain one dimensional.
At the end of the day the better team won and that’s all there is to it ! ‘nough said at this juncture as it’s on to the next round for the Spurs.

I’ve a new post up within the RSB site that I’d love for you to critique and let me know what you think as to the merits of the piece? It’s titled Uneasy Is The King Who Wears
The Crown! It’s an NBA piece as you can guess.

My condolences on the Suns’ loss.

……

MeanDovine

As to the Celtics Hawks matchup , it’d appear that the series is far from over . And if anything the Celtics are in for a steep and strenuous battle which is something I believe that the majority of us didn’t foresee. They’ve become complacent and were probably of the thinking that they’d dust off this team with ease.

The Hawks have proven to be a testy team and a more than capable match for Rivers’ players.

Can you imagine the furore in ‘Beantown’ should the Celtics be dumped on their proverbial as*s much as in the same as the Patriots? I’d dare say that a number of Bostonians as well as a great many New Englanders would take flight and leap off into Boston harbor with a lead weight around their ankles for good measure. Either that or resort to cheering for the Red Sox. ’cause other than that there’d be nothing els to live for ……… not even the Bruins.

tophatal ……….

DOWN GOES ‘ALLAS!!!!!

man this is great, and there’s talk of them bringing in D’antoni?

As if their problem isnt their DEFENSE?!?

And he’s supposed to fix that?!?

PLEASE HIRE HIM MORK, I CANT WAIT!!!

WOOO HOOOOOO!!! Down goes Dallas. I’m soooooooooooooo happy they’re going fishin’. Who’s the REAL suckas now Stack. You were the biggest sucka of all getting ejected. Can we say “LOSERS” boys and girls. I love it, I love it, I love it. hehehehehe

Congrats to the Spurs. Good job fellas. I don’t know if D’Antoni will remain in Phoenix. It will be interesting to see.

Ridge-I can’t imagine D’Antoni is going to Dallas. I hadn’t heard that. But don’t be surprised if he winds up in Toronto. Their GM, Bryan Colangelo, is the one who hired him in Phx. I just can’t see any way D’Antoni’s back with the Suns next year. I’ve got a piece in the works about the where they go from here.

MISBEHAVING AGAIN!!!!

I was DYING laughing at that gone fishing picture of the suns.

The mavs one too with mork’s head on the short diesel dude.

LOL

I also agree that d’antoni will end up in toronto.

Its too perfect

One problem…they already HAVE an excellent (see: coach of the year award won LAST SEASON!!!) coach in place.

Man this year and coming off season is soooo juicy.

I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!

GOOOOOO … D’Backs!!! ….. lol

I’m not completely done boo-hooing about the Suns so I’ll wait ’till I don’t sound like a crybaby.

I will say that as soon as I saw Joey Crawford as one of the refs I called my bookie and bet a grand on the Spurs.

Cha-ching!!!

More later if I have time.

Kiss this (.Y.) “nummy”… peace

Rick O

That was the Suns’ real problem all along. They just couldn’t see, especially ahead of ‘em behind ‘em and as a matter of fact to either side of themselves. It were as if they were lost in a desert sandstorm and there was no one there to assist them. Never mind the fact that D’Antoni just didn’t have a clue in hell as to what it is the team were suppose to be doing! See my latest post within the RSB site written under this guise and let me know what you think as to the merits of the piece? It’s titled Uneasy Is The King Who Wears A Crown!

I’ll look forward to reading your comments as and when you’re ready.

tophatal ……..

Man i cant WAIT to hear you phoenix stans excuse now.

And they should be ashamed of themselves with all this “were the better team” crap they’ve been trying to sell.

LOL, IF you were the better team then you would’ve won more than 1 game in the series.

Or actually won a championship already (Spurs have 2-3 btw since your current team has been in place)

Stop the blood clot crying already and admit that you guys just arent good enough.

I hate to say this, but yesterday’s Game 5 performance was one of the worst post season showings I have seen from a would-be championship contender in a long time, if not ever.

1. The missed free throws were inexcusable.

2. The turnovers were inexcusable

3. The lack of focus at the outset of the game was inexcusable.

4. The crunch time execution was inexcusable.

It was a total team failure, starting with the team’s so-called leaders.

I was relieved to hear Suns’ players cite, to a man, that San Antonio was the better team. They clearly were.

MeanDovine
RIDGE

It goes with the ol’ addage…’ you either bring it or you wing it’ ….. In the Suns’ case they did neither and they were made to pay for that very fact. As for the Suns’ fans they’ll be at home all wrapped up in their blinkies having a psychotic episode and then some!

tophatal …………..

Does anyone wonder why the Mavs just got bounced from the playoffs? Incredibly stupid. Look, I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s. I smoked more weed than all of you – combined. But I didn’t announce it publicly.

Even if I decided to do so I surely wouldn’t have done it during the course of competition. I’d say the Jason Kidd experiment failed.

And I don’t mean to brag (yes I do) but I said Shaq to Phoenix was a bad move when the trade went down. Who’s loving me now?

Moondog,

We’re on the same page where Howard is concerned …

The Jason Kidd experiment failed before it was conceived …

The Shaq experiment didn’t fail. The Phoenix Suns failed. Nash’s turnovers were horrendous. Grant Hill stayed hurt. D’Antoni reduced his rotation to 7 people due to stubbornness. The team had large leads in both of the first two games of the Spurs-Suns series and blew them. And in Game 7 the Suns played like rank amateurs.

Blame Shaq if you want. Hell, blame Kerr. But the professional consensus, as is mine, is that the Suns, starting with Coach Mike D’Antoni, failed themselves.

Thus said, Shaq was the same hindrance he’s always been: a terrible free throw shooter. But do me a favor, look at the record and tell me how many free throws the Suns missed as a team in Game 7 …

Suffice it to say, it was more than enough to win the game.

In every game the Suns loss to San Antonio, they suffered a collective team failure, with the most glaring on-court mistakes being made by none other than Steve Nash, followed, certainly early in the series, by Boris Diaw.

Thanks for contributing to the discussion, bro.

We love hearing your views.

Best …

———-

P.S. There is so much more to say on the Shaq-Suns front, but because Phoenix is Ricko’s team I’ll let him handle it. Look for something from him on the matter soon.

Something to say?
